Located in the heart of Duncan, Marcia offers a variety of individual and couples counselling services, but specializes in couples, family and substance abuse counselling.

About Marcia

Marcia has a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Her approach is compassionate, non-judgemental and confidential. She provides tools and strategies for clients to make perceptual shifts and to resolve problems in as few sessions as possible.

Marcia attends several educational workshops per year to keep current with the most effective therapeutic approaches and information. Some additional training includes: Emotional Regulation in Couples Therapy, Rebuilding Intimacy After an Affair, Addictions, Response Based Therapy for Trauma, Critical Incident Debriefing, Crime Victim Assistance, Resolving Depression and Anxiety, and Brief Solution-focused Therapy.

Experience is essential to successful outcomes. Marcia has 22 years of experience counselling youth and adult clients with career, employment and personal issues. She provides private counselling, and is a provider for several Employee Assistance Program agencies, Victim Services, and some insurance and benefits companies. Couples Counselling

Marcia offers couples/marriage counselling for clients struggling with issues such as, trust after infidelity, emotional or sexual distancing, arguments that seem to escalate and never seem to be resolved, or the challenges of separation/divorce and co-parenting.

She assists couples to use practical strategies that work for them, to communicate in ways that are respectful to create understanding, to work together to resolve issues, and to create healthier, more positive patterns of communication.

Family Counselling

Teenagers and children are often affected by transitions in couples’ relationships, or they may be in conflict with parents or step-parents. Marcia provides therapy to assist teens, children, parents or step-parents to work together to create more harmonious family environments.

Substance Abuse Counselling

Marcia provides individual counselling to clients who are thinking about quitting the use of alcohol or drugs, or who want to quit and want to maintain clean and sober living. She offers counselling to family members who are affected by someone who may have addictions.

Depression, Anxiety, Anger, Stress

Depression, anxiety, anger, and stress are frequently reported by individuals, couples and teens in her practice. She coaches clients to develop new perspectives, to find solutions to reduce these or similar issues, and to discover and use practical tools within brief solution-focused therapy.

Victims of Abuse or Trauma

Victims of abuse often blame themselves and may believe they choose abusive partners. Marcia assists victims identify their responses to perpetrators of abuse.

Marcia provides debriefing of traumatic or critical incidents, personal or workplace, to reduce symptoms of trauma, to prevent longer lasting effects of trauma (i.e. PTSD).
